Dave had known Gavin for a few years, having worked on some of his engines, and, when he was sadly diagnosed with cancer, said he wanted Gavin to do his funeral .. so with Gavin we went..
from the minute we rang, after Dave left us,.not only, were we treated with the utmost respect,.. we were also, made to feel like family,.. and were shown nothing but care and compassion, from everyone we dealt with..
the whole process was made so easy for us..we were guided through every step..everyone bent over backwards to get everything just as Dave wanted ..and as this funeral, was not quite "the norm" (to say the least!).. they did an outstanding job !.. anything we asked, 'could we have...' the answer was, 'yes, we can do that'.. Dave Wasnt religious, so Gavin organised the whole service to be held at Coppenhall club.. it was Gavins idea to put Dave, in his coffin, on stage for the service..which was so apt, as Dave had been a musician in bands for years..so that was perfect , and really touched us..
i also have to mention the classic car, Gavin prepared for Dave to travel in.. Dave had worked on the engine previously, and when we realised there was no more treatment, and told Gavin, he threw himself fully into getting that car ready for Daves final journey.. he worked so hard to get it finished for us , and it really made it, the best send off..
with their organisation, the day of the funeral ran so smoothly..
everything was done 'right'..
but above that, the warmth, care and compassion, we were shown, means so much more to us..
we cannot thank Gavin, and all the team enough..i could go on, but i think some pictures of the day will say much more..

Gavin, Paula and Max have been absolutely fantastic throughout the last 6 weeks. My sister suddenly passed away at the end of July and they have been friendly, respectful, patient and granted all our wishes even down to going out and buying my sister some fake eyelashes as she always had eyelashes on. I was going to do her make up but due to time and living in Manchester, time just flew by so his lovely wife made sure she was made up and put her lashes on her. As far as coffins go, I’ve never seen such beautiful satin lining in a coffin. They treated my sister with respect, even washed her hair, gave us locks of her hair as requested and have just basically been there for us throughout this heartbreaking time! Even when Gavin went away for the weekend he was still making arrangements. They drove my sister from Crewe/ Nantwich all the way to Manchester where she was buried. Although I live in Manchester, God for bid if anything was to happen to me whilst I’m young I would want Gavin to take care of me. They’re a wonderful team who cannot do enough for you, as well as being Firefighters and Volunteer Ambulance First Responders in their spare time (Max attended my mum’s house fire in 2015) the house was in flames from top to bottom and he revived my mums dog. It’s a small independent family business and they are amazing people with huge hearts and love to help people. I could carry on writing for another hour for everything they’ve done for us, but in a nutshell I’d rate them 100 out of 10. If you’ve lost a loved one and are looking for a genuinely respect and reliable funeral director then go to Gavin. They’re not money grabbing people either, his prices were over £2000 cheaper than the initial funeral director we were going to use. They behaved professionally but also have a good sense of humour if you need to have a laugh!! Instead of a funeral we wanted to call it a celebration of my sister’s life, they went above and beyond to meet every need / wish we had and gave her a fantastic send off with respect and dignity. Thank you Gavin, Paula, max and the rest of the team for all your help, advice, support, guidance and respect through those 6 weeks of the living nightmare we were going through!! What to say... My dear wife Diane passed away far too early and we were immediately faced with lots of decisions... I contacted Gavin and he came around to see me the next day - extremely well presented and professional, friendly and helpful - just when you need him to be. We made arrangements together - Gavin was supportive but not intrusive and worked with us on all of the arrangements, whether we wanted to arrange things or whether we asked him to do so. Prior to the funeral I was able to visit my wife as often as I liked, which I found to be a comfort. On the day of the funeral we couldn't have asked for better service - the whole team were involved, Gavin provided the vintage Hearse (which looked every inch a 'classic') and the whole event was really well managed. Gavin, Max and staff were there the whole time, helping ensure things ran smoothly, always present in the right place at the right time and with just the right amount of presence. Paula did a great job of placing/arranging the flowers in church and the Orders of Service and music were spot on. Thanks Gavin and all the team, this was a very difficult day for my daughter and me and you really worked hard to ensure it was all well organised and as good as could be, we're both very grateful. Gavin Palin and his team were recommended to us after our dad passed away on 7th February. They offered an absolutely amazing first class service from start to finish. From the moment they attended Mum's house to take Dad away, to the moment Dad was laid to rest at his woodland burial yesterday, Gavin and his team acted with consummate professionalism. They were also comforting and empathetic during what was a very emotional time. They gave us all the time we needed regarding every aspect of planning Dad's funeral. When we visited Dad in the chapel of rest Gavin was a comforting presence and was very reassuring. Gavin and the team incorporated all of our requests for the day of the funeral. Some of our requests were not the usual type of requests, but nevertheless Gavin and his team pulled out all the stops to ensure that Dad had the send off he would have wanted, and the send off he deserved. Dad would have loved it! There was no sense of being rushed at any point, and we were made to feel at ease the whole time. The funeral celebrant who Gavin chose for us - Ian Lewsey - was warm, respectful and compassionate. On the day of the funeral everything ran very smoothly and we were very well looked after. Losing my mum was the hardest and most painful time in my life (it is still) but Gavin was the most sincere and respectful man. No matter what time of night I wanted to come talk to her it was always ok. I lost my grandmother, Katrina Tomkinson, last year. My mother after extensive research, going by others testimonials and recommendations chose Gavin Palin and colleagues to care for my nan until the funeral. The care and thoughtfulness that was shown to my mother throughout the worst time in her life was exemplary. The little touches stood out the most for me; opening the office on a Saturday night to chat, making her a brew before a chat, providing explanations and advise without being condescending, showing genuine compassion, keeping her updated throughout everything and even asking simple questions such as making sure everyone was sat where they should be before the funeral service began to ensure everything was as perfect as it could be. Not to mention the care and respect they showed my grandmother until her service. I simply could not fault the team, and although a sad occasion, I came out feeling that we made the right choice using Gavin and co, and had so much respect for the work they do. Later in the year, tragedy struck again in my family. My uncle, Mark Crimes, who was more like a father to me, sadly passed away, and I was one of the individuals who was to make arrangements. There was not a second thought in my mind, immediately I knew Gavin and team should be the ones to care for him. This was also solidified by the fact my uncle himself really liked them having seen the service for my nan months prior. As before, the team went above and beyond our expectations; allowing multiple visits over the Christmas period, including on Christmas Day, supporting us throughout the entire process, allowing us the freedom to customise the service how we wanted it - yet still providing much needed guidance and information, along with support and taking care of arrangements. They removed all the stress, giving us the ability to truly design a service that was right for my uncle. I personally met Gavin and Max, both were very professional and empathetic, they immediately put us as ease and guided us through the entire process start to finish without hassle. I cannot thank everyone at Gavin Palin Independent Family Funeral Services enough, the care and respect you shown my loved ones, alive and sadly departed, as well as myself, shall never be forgotten. Each and every member of my family who met you all said what wonderful people you are and how lovely the services were. Although hopefully not for a long time yet, I can say for certain we shall be meeting again, to which I am sure more excellent testimonials can be written. Thank you.

Thank you, Gavin, Max, Paula and team for the care and compassion you showed to our mum and the support you gave to us. We can’t describe in words how wonderful you all are. From the very moment we made that phone call, to the last minutes when we laid mum to rest you supported and guided us through every step, made what was a traumatic and upsetting time for us easier. When you took her, you said you’d look after mum, and you did with the dignity love and care as if she was one of your own mums. We knew she was in safe hands I can remember coming to see mum and I knew it would be fine and it was, so much so that my sisters who had had reservations took the step and were glad then had. Gavin and his team had taken care of everything, hair, little bit of make up as mum liked. It’s as if she was sleeping. Nothing was too much trouble, every little detail and more was put in place for the day to be special as possible, you went above and beyond to give our mum the loving send-off she deserved. From walking in front of the Hearse, which is soooo lovely right up to the playing of music at the graveside, never heard of that before but WOW what a touch. WOW Where do I start. When the most precious thing in the world to me, my wife my best friend and my soul mate Pam lost her brave fight I could never have imagined how a service like Gavin and the team provide could make such a difference. As a husband I felt so low and vulnerable as I was going into unknow territory, I need not have worried these guys guided me every step of the way. I went to see my Pam on 4 occasions in the chapel of rest and on each occasion they treated it like the first, they knew I was struggling but they embraced me in a way only loving caring people can. Every time I asked could we do something, the answer was always the same, YES these guys just do not know how to say no. When making arrangements to them every detail matters, even down to the route you may wish to take on the day. On the day of the service they were exemplary, total professionalism, the way they conduct themselves, the way they assist and encourage others like me to stand up and be brave at a time when you need a shoulder to lean on. Along with my family I am proud to say Gavin and Max were a very broad set of shoulders that took us under their wings and guided us through the whole process. When it came to sorting a headstone I had an idea of what I wanted so between Me - Gavin/Max and the Stonemason it was batted back and too 3-4 times until I was happy, second best is not good enough for Gavin and Max. When the time comes to meet my Pam again there are only one set of instructions, Ring for Gavin and the team. To Gavin, Max, Paula, Jordan and Doug - I salute you and will be forever in your debt. I don't usually write reviews but I feel the outstanding service from Gavin Palin Funeral Services needs to be recognised. Both Gavin and Max are both exemplary in their profession in helping my family and I to unexpectedly arrange my Dad's funeral. Nothing is too much trouble for Gavin and Max, they take great care to listen and pay particular attention to details, even when these are changed at short notice. They spend time to find the most tasteful versions of music requested (football anthem), organise beautiful floral tributes, even in the shape of a football, re design service cards many times and also set out tables and chairs in a hired hall. Gavin and Max ensured the running of the service went perfectly, they advised on unexpected roadworks and even directed traffic when necessary.
I would not hesitate to recommend Gavin and Max, they are both very genuine and caring and helped us get through what seemed like an impossible task in the worst time of our lives. Thank you both.

Our Good Friend Dave died. Due to circumstances it was up to his friends to follow his wishes. This was complicated when his Executor was taken ill with Pneumonia , as a result we were asked to help. Gavin and Max travelled some distance to visit us at home , a couple of times to discuss the funeral arrangements and plans. All our questions were answered quickly and efficiently Thanks to their help and advice and working with their suggested celebrant and printers we managed to give Dave what he wanted which included a superb Red Coffin in Liverpool FC colours They were kind enough to transport us to and from the funeral making sure it all went smoothly and afterwards helping to provide the headstone. We are very pleased with them.
